Sarawak Native Handicraft....

I work for three and half years, from 1986 to 1989 in the state of Sarawak. It turn out to be the best part of my thirty two years career in the Federal Government Service. While there I collected many handicrafts such as the Sarawak Pottery that are exclusively made by the local Chinese. It design is a fusion of the native art with the Chinese pottery expertise; turning the Sarawak pottery into one of a kind. Whereas the Handicrafts made from Bamboo, Bemban, Rattan, Cloth, Beads and other materials are handmade by the indigenous people like the Iban, Bidayuh, the Orang Ulu and other ethnic group of people who live all over the state. The Sarawak Handicraft is unique in that the pattern and design are exclusively found only in that part of the Borneo Island. It is their skills in crafting the artifacts they produce that made it so special. Some of it with unique designs that had been pass-down by their ancestors for generations before and committed to memories. Most if not all are crafted by woman who diligently with their ingenuity produce every piece by hand. Making each one of it different than the other thus it became a unique work of art. Above is a well-crafted Basket container made of Bamboo or Bemban that I got there. It must have been thirty years old and still in a very good condition.  It is one of my priceless collection of things Sarawak.

Have a nice day.

Halwa Maskat...

The Sunrise at Teluk Cempedak...

We were in Kuantan for a short holiday. As usual I always take the time to watch the sunrise at Teluk Cempedak; a beach that I call my own. I grew up playing on that sandy beach from the age of seven years old and I felt in love with the sea. So going to that beach is a ritual that I never missed to do whenever I am in Kuantan.  Early that Saturday morning of September 3, 2016 I woke early and with my nephew driving we left for the beach at around 6.30am. According to the data I had the sun would rise at Teluk Cempedak at 7.01am that morning. When we arrived at the beach there were already others there waiting for the sun to rise. I had brought my latest camera the Canon EOS M10 with me. It is a Mirrorless camera, the new new generation of the DSLR. It is much smaller than the DSLR and have interchangeable lens. As soon as I got there I walk along the beach and enjoy the freshness of the morning air. Yonder at the horizon I could see some light as the the sun makes it
